New track from Kin Balam, “Generaciones,” released this week on SoundCloud: soundcloud.com/kinbalam. Facebook bio says, “Alam Santos a.k.a. Kin Balam is from the Indigenous lands of Cuxkatan, Nekepio, El Salvador. He was born in the heart of a people’s revolution, raised in the Northern lands of Turtle Island.”
Performing at the Maplewood Flats on Dollarton Highway on Saturday, July 20 as part of the 13th Osprey Festival. The free festival with events for the whole family runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features Coast Salish Culture, an outdoor acoustic stage with performances from Miss Christie Lee, Bre McDaniel, Candace Curr, Wil George and M’Girl as well as Kin Balam.
Kin Balam’s original music brings in influences from Flamenco, Latin American, Indigenous Mesoamerican, Afro Latin Jazz and Hip Hop. Leave his SoundCloud playing and you will hear all of these styles flow through a brilliant fusion of form.
Kin in Lenca Poton and Balam in Maya, translates to “The path of the jaguar.”
